Barking and beating

From Valentino Braitenberg's introduction to Roederer's Information and its role in nature.
In our search for a proper place of "information" in a Theory of the World we have been barking up the wrong tree for centuries. Now we are beating around the bush from all sides
Yes, yes, yes! That's what's afoot.

He goes on:
Reading Roederer I get the impression that he knows exactly where the prey is hiding
Well, Information and its role in nature is one of the books I'm part way through. You know when you are downloading several documents at once and you wonder if it would have been better to do one at a time... well Roederer is paused while I brush up my semiotics with Chandler (Online here - though I'm reading the paperback.)

Quantum paradoxes

Roederer (Information and its role in nature, Springer 2005) page 51:
Quantum paradoxes are paradoxes because of our unavoidable urge to represent mentally what happens inside the quantum domain with familiar images and paradigms from our sensory experience in a classical, macroscopic world. But nothing that transcends physically or informationally from a quantum system into the macroscopic world is intrinsically paradoxical or contrary to the laws of classical and relativistic physics.

Roederer

I'm currently reading J. G . Roederer "Information and its role in nature" and need to somewhere to record notes. I'll do it here.

(This is, even more than usual, really only addressed to myself. I might come back to edit this post, to add more notes as I go along.)

Page 26: Effective Complexity. "The algorithmic information needed for description of [...] regularities and their probabilities." A plot of effective regularity against randomness looks like this.



Roederer points out that it is like the a plot of entropy against probability for a binary source. But for me the more interesting similarity is with Gerda Smets plot of pleasure against complexity.
