This is one of a series of posts about my experience of the Defend our Juries (DoJ) 'Lift the Ban' campaign. See my Lift the Ban page for more.
Yesterday (20 October 2026) I got yet another letter from the Met Police, this one telling me that I have been 'released under investigation' (RUI) following my fourth arrest (outside Westminster Magistrates Court on 30th July). This means I don't need to go down to Plumstead police station next week to answer my bail, but they are keen to warn me that I am still under investigation and, importantly, it confirms in writing that this one is for a Section 12 offence (of the Terrorism Act 2000). My other arrests and the two charges are Section 13. Although the difference in what you do to contravene S12 rather than S13 appears subtle, the consequences are very different. Maximum sentence of S13 is 6 months in jail. For S12 it is 14 years!
In summary now (See my Lift the Ban page for more about each of them):
- S13 arrest 9 Aug 2025: charged and entered my not-guilty plea
- S13 arrest 11th April 2026: charged
- S13 arrest 12th June: RUI
- S12 arrest 30th July: RUI
- S13 arrest 27th Sept: de-arrested but still under investigation
- I'm also under investigation for a possible S12 offence due to my little video.
If you'd told me just two years ago that this is how my retirement would unfold I would have thought your were fey. But then if you'd told me four years ago that Britain in 2026 would be complicit in genocide I wouldn't have believed that either.
